Using brain imaging, Dr. Pascal Tétreault and his team are tracking the effects of arthritis pain treatments on the brain. The goal of this study is to guide more effective and personalized pain treatments to fight the fire of arthritis.
When you make a donation to support this research, you are sending your generous support to the frontlines. When you give today, you will be funding Dr. Tétreault’s innovative research study and your donation will be matched to double in impact.
The fire of arthritis burns relentlessly for six million Canadians. If you or someone you love is living with arthritis, then you sadly know this all too well. Your compassionate support is critical to ensuring that pain treatments are personalized and effective, improving the quality of life for Canadians with arthritis while we work to extinguish arthritis for good.
The Arthritis Society has committed to funding three years of the study, which is currently in its second year. But we need your help to raise $50,000 by May 17 to help fund the coming year of the project.
Six million Canadians live with the pain of arthritis. While the brain is the control centre of pain, most pain treatments focus on the joints.
Dr. Tétreault’s research is switching the focus – from the joints to the brain.
By identifying what happens in the brain when patients respond to certain treatments, Dr. Tétreault hopes to help clinicians tailor pain relief treatments for specific patients to optimize the effectiveness of the pain relief.
The outcome of this research would be better pain treatments to fight the fire of arthritis while we work to extinguish it once and for all.
Dr. Pascal Tétreault completed his PhD training in pain neurophysiology at the Université de Sherbrooke, studying neuropeptides and the mechanisms involved in chronic pain.
During his postdoctoral studies, he investigated the effects of pharmacological treatments on brain functional and structural reorganization in people with knee osteoarthritis, and showed that treatment response can be predicted by pre-treatment brain activity.
The Arthritis Society is Canada’s national health charity, fueled by donors and volunteers, with a vision to extinguish arthritis.
Donor support is critical because without action now, the number of Canadians living with arthritis will soon grow to nine million.
Our donors and sponsors are heroes. Donations provide essential financial support for initiatives like research that brings us closer to finding better treatments and, ultimately, a cure. We thank each of our everyday heroes, who share our vision of extinguishing arthritis.
Our promise to you: The Arthritis Society is committed to honoring your generosity and using your donation in the most effective way. If funds are raised in excess of those needed to support the designated purpose, the Arthritis Society acting reasonably may designate the donation towards the highest priority needs of the organization.
