Your support is building a future beyond the limits of arthritis.

For 1 in 5 people in Canada, arthritis brings a daily struggle, an unrelenting agony that strikes without warning. It steals active moments from grandparents, derails thriving careers, and shatters the dreams of our youth. Arthritis is debilitating, isolating and limiting and currently without a cure.

Now is the time to act – to build a future beyond the limits of arthritis.

Across Canada, passionate researchers like Dr. May Choi at the University of Calgary are tirelessly investigating the root causes of arthritis and related conditions that could guide treatment decisions and improve outcomes for people living with the disease. Brilliant minds are collaborating with the hope of ultimately eradicating this disease.

But each research effort needs significant funding. That’s why your support is so vital. You can help. Your support will empower us to advance arthritis research.

Today, you have an incredible opportunity to double your impact to boost innovative arthritis research! All donations to our 2024 Research Stars Fund will be matched.

Donate by midnight on July 5 to fund life-changing research and help us build a brighter future.

Transforming treatment through innovation

Dr. Mohamed OsmanInspired by her father’s legacy as a compassionate rheumatologist in Calgary, AB, Dr. May Choi has dedicated her career to rheumatology. After completing both her internal medicine training and rheumatology fellowship at the University of Calgary, Dr. Choi pursued her expertise with a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology at Harvard University and a lupus fellowship at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (Boston, MA). Today, she continues her career as a researcher at the University of Calgary.

Dr. Choi studies finding and testing biomarkers to predict outcomes in autoimmune rheumatic diseases and prevent their development and complications. Through artificial intelligence (AI) analysis of blood tests, Dr. Choi quickly identifies protein markers, or autoantibodies, ensuring faster and more precise diagnoses within hours.

Dr. Choi’s research isn’t just innovative; it’s transformative. Early detection means early treatment, preventing complications for arthritis and other related conditions. This breakthrough also eliminates the need for invasive procedures like muscle biopsies, offering excellent news for many people.

Your gift will be matched so that you make DOUBLE the impact.

Tobi

Tobi was once a very social person – an extrovert, she’d say. Arthritis has reversed that. It’s why she only leaves the house when it’s essential, why it takes an hour and a half to get her hands moving every morning. It can make her want to cry. Hear what she has to say.

About Arthritis Society Canada

Arthritis Society Canada is Canada’s national health charity, fueled by donors and volunteers, with a vision to extinguish arthritis.

Donor support is critical because without action now, the number of Canadians living with arthritis will grow to nine million by 2040.

Our donors and sponsors are heroes. Donations provide essential financial support for initiatives like research that bring us closer to finding better treatments and, ultimately, a cure. We thank each of our everyday heroes, who share our vision of extinguishing arthritis.

Our promise to you: Arthritis Society Canada is committed to honoring your generosity and using your donation in the most effective way. If funds are raised in excess of those needed to support the designated purpose, Arthritis Society Canada acting reasonably may designate the donation towards the highest priority needs of the organization.
