For his 60th birthday, Marcel Labrie, a resident of Malartic in northern Quebec, has given himself a very special gift: a 240 km bike ride in one day - June 10, 2023 - to help raise funds for Childhood Arthritis.
A veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces who has lived with arthritis since childhood and has undergone two hip replacements and one knee replacement, Mr. Labrie is not a first-time fundraiser! In 2013, he raised over $2,000 for the Arthritis Society of Canada, and has decided to take up the challenge again this year to mark his birthday.
Considering that the average cycling speed is 20 km per hour on mixed terrain, Mr. Labrie expects this cycling challenge to take more than 10 hours. "I'm older now, so I expect it to be harder. I've been training since April and my goal is to do my best and, hopefully, inspire others to donate their birthdays to a cause close to their hearts."
Marcel Labrie has already raised over $2,500 thanks to contributions from friends and family on the Move Your Way platform. We are extremely grateful to Mr. Labrie for his generosity, and wish him the best of luck on his journey!
