Speakers
Arlaina Waisman, registered dietitian
Arlaina has worked in many areas as a Registered Dietitian, ranging from acute care, long term care, community, and over 10 years at GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre with a focus on spinal cord injuries. In 2006 Arlaina joined the OASIS (the Osteoarthritis Service Integration System) program at Vancouver Coastal Health as the Dietitian Educator, supporting clients and staff.
Arlaina has had experience working with various forms of arthritis throughout her entire career including working as an outpatient RD, working in acute care and in physical rehab. Since 2006, Arlaina has worked as an educator providing a variety of Nutrition classes for people suffering with arthritis. These interactive sessions are designed for people to make improvements in what and how they eat to ultimately feel better living with a chronic condition. Arlaina provides classes to groups both virtually and in person.
Louise Lydon, occupational therapist
Louise is a graduate of the UBC Occupational therapy program and has been working with Vancouver Coastal Health for over 25 years. When the OASIS program was first developed in 2006, Louise was the first occupational therapist educator with the program and helped to implement the original education program with OASIS and its ongoing evolution. Louise has provided countless hours of education to patients with arthritis and enjoys empowering clients to learn new ways to stay active and independent with sore joints. Patient education in preparing for hip and knee replacement surgery has been a large component of Louise’s education experience. In Louise’s free time she enjoys playing tennis, hiking with her dog and spending time with her 2 teenaged sons.
Wendy Watson, physiotherapist
Wendy Watson is a Registered Physiotherapist with Vancouver Coastal Health. She has over 25 years of experience in a variety of settings, including private practice and injury prevention, but has spent the majority of her career working for the OsteoArthritis Service Integration System (OASIS) program. Wendy provides group education about arthritis management, and has led a number of quality improvement, education and training projects. She is interested in health education and literacy, and health promotion strategies for clients with arthritis. In her free time she enjoys hiking, skiing, pilates and travel.
