Lieutenant Governor Mike Savage gets the roast of a lifetime at East Coast Roast

31st annual Arthritis Society Canada event serves up comedy, glamour and $537,000 raised for a vital cause

April 29, 2025 – It was a night of laughter and community at Arthritis Society Canada’s annual East Coast Roast, held on April 26, 2025. Presented by Lindsay Construction and Ocean Contractors, the sold-out event brought together Atlantic Canada’s movers and shakers for a uniquely hilarious evening, all in support of the 6 million people in Canada living with arthritis.

This year’s honouree, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, Mike Savage, took the hot seat with grace as colleagues and friends reflected on his decades of public service, including twelve impactful years as Mayor of Halifax. The evening offered a one-of-a-kind look into the life and legacy of a beloved leader, and featured inspirational stories of strength and resilience from members of the arthritis community.

While the laughs were loud, the cause was even louder. A resounding $537,000 was raised to support groundbreaking arthritis research, bringing us one step closer to a cure, and programs like Camp JoinTogether, which have enabled hundreds of children in Atlantic Canada living with arthritis to experience the joys of summer camp, free from limitations.

“I am grateful to Arthritis Society Canada for its vital work advancing research, advocacy, and support for the millions of Canadians living with arthritis,” said Mike Savage, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia. “Their commitment to innovation and patient-centered care is transforming lives, driving progress toward better treatments, and ensuring that arthritis remains a national health priority. Through their leadership, individuals affected by arthritis have access to the resources and support they need to live fuller, healthier lives.”

Now in its 31st year, the East Coast Roast continues to be a signature event in Atlantic Canada’s social calendar. Known for its elegance and impact, the East Coast Roast is a celebration of community champions, igniting awareness and improving the lives of the nearly half a million people in Atlantic Canada living with arthritis.
