Arthritis Centres are the rheumatology divisions of the departments of medicine in Canadian universities, including accredited pediatric rheumatology centres.
For over 50 years, the Arthritis Society has provided funding to support Arthritis Centres across Canada. As centres of clinical expertise, research, and education, their role in the Canadian healthcare environment is to help ensure that Canadians with arthritis receive the best care.
Through these funding commitments to Arthritis Centres, the Arthritis Society supplements and leverages resources at medical schools and raises the profile of arthritis within universities. This supports the Arthritis Centres’ capacity to provide exemplary patient care, ensure high standards of graduate and undergraduate teaching, and develop excellent opportunities for clinical and basic research.
The 2019-20 Arthritis Centre Grants support centres that align with one of the Arthritis Society’s primary strategic areas of focus – building and supporting a pipeline of strong researchers. These grants support capacity building programs at Arthritis Centres with an aim to increase the number of academic rheumatologists in Canada and/or to support research training in rheumatology.
The 2019-20 recipients of up to $15,000 for a term of one year are:
