Seniors Living Well with Arthritis is an opportunity to come together as a community to learn about the impacts of arthritis and gain valuable tools to help manage it.

This one-day conference will bring together experts in the field of arthritis and chronic health management to provide participants with a wealth of knowledge. Join us for this exciting event focused on equipping you with tools to become better self-managers of your arthritis.

Enjoy content from our arthritis experts throughout the day, in addition to engaging with our arthritis community exhibitors.

The venue is located conveniently in downtown Charlottetown at the beautiful Confederation Centre of the Arts. The conference takes place in the Memorial Hall.

Parking is limited to street availability – please plan travel arrangements in advance. There are additional paid-parking lots available. Please confirm rates and availability with the parkade directly: Queen Parkade (Queen St.), Pownal Parkade (Pownal St.), Fitzroy Parkade (Fitzroy St.).

  • Dr. Volodko Bakowsky, Rheumatologist

    Dr. Bakowsky is originally from Thunder Bay, Ontario. He completed Photo of Dr. Volodko Bakowsky
    Medical School at Queen’s and Internal Medicine and Rheumatology
    at Dalhousie. He has been a practicing rheumatologist for 19 years.
    His administrative roles have included Rheumatology Residency
    Program Director and Unit Head for MSK Derm Unit at Dalhousie
    University. He is presently the Interim Head, Division of
    Rheumatology, Department of Medicine, Dalhousie University
    and QEII Health Sciences Centre.

  • Shauna Wright, Nurse Practitioner

    Shauna graduated from UPEI in 2009 with her Photo of Shauna Wright
    Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She worked as registered nurse for nine years in the emergency department and recovery room prior to completing her Nurse Practitioner degree at Dalhousie University in 2018. Her role became specialized when she accepted an Orthopaedic NP position with Health PEI. She trained collaboratively with PEI’s five orthopaedic surgeons and is currently taking an Orthopaedic NP Speciality Certificate program through Duke University.

    Shauna is leading the Orthopedic Intervention Clinic in PEI; this clinic optimizes care and improves access by reducing wait times for patients presenting with orthopaedic problems. Shauna provides comprehensive assessments and self-management education, establishes treatment goals, and offers non-surgical interventions for Islanders.

  • Dr. David Whitty, Chiropractor

    Dr. David Whitty has practised chiropractic in downtown Charlottetown for 20 years. He is a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University with a science degree, the Canadian Chiropractic College in Toronto (Doctor of Chiropractic) and holds a Master of Education and Leadership from UPEI. He is the President of the PEI Chiropractic Association, and one of the Opinion Leaders with the Canadian Chiropractic Guidelines Initiative.

    Like other chiropractors, the focus of his care is on neuro-musculo-skeletal system, assessing movement patterns throughout the body, determining areas of muscle weakness and limited mobility. Dr. Whitty’s patient population stretches from teens to adults to seniors. His focus is on addressing the soft tissues (muscle and tendons) and joint mobility.

  • Rebecca Dunn, Pharmacist

    Rebecca is currently the pharmacist manager at Photo of Rebecca Dunn
    Murphy's Cornwall Pharmacy. She obtained her BSc in pharmacy from Memorial University of Newfoundland, and practiced in community pharmacy in Vancouver Island for 10 years before returning back home to PEI. She is passionate about patient care and enjoys doing education sessions and community presentations. She is the proud mother of two young children, and enjoys many hobbies such as biking, golf, drumming and harp.

  • Shannon McQuaid, Registered Dietitian

    Shannon McQuaid, RD graduated from the UPEI Integrated Dietetic Internship Program in 2010. At the beginning of her career, she spent five years working at the PEI Healthy Eating Alliance, where she supported Early Years Centres, worked with schools to educate and support policies and was very involved in school breakfast programs.

    For the last three and a half years, Shannon has worked as a Sobeys Dietitian in Charlottetown, using her “foodie skills” to teach people how to improve health through food, in group education and individual counselling settings. Shannon is passionate about promoting a healthy relationship with food.
