Arthritis Ideator Program launched

The Arthritis Society is inviting entrepreneurs and ideators from across Canada to help us fight the fire of arthritis.

Are you working on solutions to improve the lives of people with arthritis? Apply to our new Arthritis Ideator Program for an opportunity to receive one of four $50,000 prizes to help get your idea or product to the people who need them.

“We want to tap into Canada’s brightest talent. We’re challenging entrepreneurs to invent and tailor practical solutions that we can help accelerate,” says Trish Barbato, president and CEO of the Arthritis Society.

Ideas and innovations might include, for example:

  • Assistive devices for aiding mobility or making the activities of daily living easier for people with arthritis.

  • Technology that can help people better manage their disease.

  • An app that helps people monitor their symptoms.

The Arthritis Ideator Program is a key pillar of the Arthritis Society’s bold new innovation strategy, aimed at achieving transformational change in the diagnosis, treatment and management of arthritis.

Applications for this new competition will be accepted until Dec. 21, 2021. Eight finalists will be selected by an expert panel from among the applications received, and the finalists will present their ideas at the Arthritis Ideation Den™ event on Thursday April 21, 2022. The top three innovations will receive a $50,000 prize. An additional finalist, selected for the People’s Choice Award will also receive $50,000.

“For far too long people have been told ‘it’s just arthritis’ but it’s not just arthritis. It’s a condition denying one in five Canadians of the mobility, their quality of life and in some cases their livlihood,” says Barbato. “But if no bold idea goes ignored, we can help six million people live a better life. And – one day – extinguish arthritis for good.”
