Congratulations Team Tucker and OrangeTheory Fitness Sage Creek on building awareness about childhood arthritis and raising $370 for the Wawanesa Insurance Walk to Fight Arthritis in Winnipeg!
Team Captain Elizabeth Tucker is a member of OrangeTheory Fitness (OTF).
Her two daughters, Natalie age 13, and Allison age 10, have lived with childhood arthritis for 20 years combined.
“Until Elizabeth approached me and asked if we could support a cause close to her heart, I had no idea that kids could have arthritis,” explains OrangeTheory Fitness, Sage Creek owner, Megan Scatliff Gabert.
There are 1500 infants to young adults in Manitoba living with childhood arthritis. It affects more children than any other chronic disease - 3 per 1,000 - or approximately 1 child in every school. There is no cure.
“When it comes to childhood arthritis, I was shocked to hear about the number of medications these kids need and how childhood arthritis can affect their growth. I can’t imagine the impact on daily life for a family – the stress, the suffering, the appointments,” Megan said.
Elizabeth added that for her and her husband, “watching our daughters in pain is the hardest part of our parenting.”
For every donation of $5 or more for Team Tucker during Childhood Arthritis Month in March, supporters could sign their name on a bluebird placed on the OTF wall. A total of $370 was raised!
“Our members are our family,” says Megan.
“Some members have shared they live with osteoarthritis, or fibromyalgia. Our trainers work with them to adapt their workouts. When Liz approached me and I found out what kids with childhood arthritis can go through, I knew we could help make a difference.”
