A first-time partnership with Sobeys will begin during Arthritis Awareness Month, something customers in Winnipeg should “check out”.
From September 15 to 24, Sobeys St. Anne’s Road will offer a six-pack of mini muffins with “arthritis blue” icing. Sobeys will donate $2.50 from every package to The Arthritis Society, Manitoba/Nunavut to help support programs and services.
“Together with our business units, franchisees, affiliates and employees from across Canada, we contribute millions of dollars to hundreds of community organizations each year,” says store manager Jordan Firth.
“I see the impact of arthritis first-hand in our store. Customers with mobility challenges. Staff facing chronic pain from repetitive motions. I am proud that our store can help build awareness and raise funds to support The Arthritis Society.”
In addition to Sobeys’ cupcake promotion, the grocer will acknowledge World Arthritis Day on October 12 by stuffing flyers into grocery bags for the free “Knowledge is Power” Arthritis Symposium on Saturday, October 21 at Canad Inns Destination Centre, Polo Park.
Finally, plans are underway for a free in-store public presentation this fall featuring Sobeys St. Anne’s pharmacist, Chris (Lawtons) Rondeau.
Topics include how pharmacists can help with understanding medications and how they may interact with other prescriptions or over-the-counter drugs, supplements and vitamins. A representative from The Arthritis Society will be on-hand to provide information about free programs and services offered this fall.
“This new partnership is a win-win on so many levels,” says Donna Wills, regional manager for The Arthritis Society Manitoba/Nunavut.
“From grassroots initiatives to larger partnerships, we work with our local communities,” says Jordan.
