Birdies for Kids Set to Raise Thousands for Fight Against Arthritis

July 1, 2017
Birdies for KidsThe Shaw Charity Classic will again host some of the greatest names in golf at Calgary’s Canyon Meadows Golf & Country Club this summer, and we are happy to announce that The Arthritis Society has again been selected as one the participating charities for Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink (BFK), a non-profit program run under the Calgary Shaw Charity Classic Foundation.

The Tournament, which this year runs from August 30 to September 3, has raised more than $13.8 million in its first four years, with a PGA TOUR Champions record setting donation of $5,217,713 raised in 2016 that was distributed amongst 124 youth-based charities in Alberta.

The Arthritis Society will receive 100% of every donation collected through the Birdies for Kids on our behalf and, through a tiered matching gift program from various corporate supporters with AltaLink being a founding partner of the program, have the potential to receive up to 50% in extra funding.

It is estimated that as many as 24,000 Canadian children and teens have arthritis (more than three out of every 1,000).  Donations collected through the Birdies for Kids program for the Arthritis Society will fund programs and services designed to help those living with childhood arthritis become better informed and connected, including Camp Childhood Arthritis, our Family Match Program, and the Juvenile Arthritis Information Resource binder.

You can help hand back childhood to those living with JIA by donating at shawcharityclassic.com.
