LCBO stores raise funds for The Arthritis Society Walk to Fight Arthritis

May 28, 2012 | Penny Tantakis

From today until June 23, the public can support The Arthritis Society Walk to Fight Arthritis, presented by the makers of TYLENOL®, by making a donation at checkout at any of the more than 620 LCBO stores throughout Ontario.

The Walk is a 1 or 5km fun-filled, family event that unites communities in supporting the nearly 4.5 million Canadians living with arthritis, including the more than 1.8 million men, women and children in Ontario. The 2012 Walk will be taking place on June 10th in communities throughout Ontario. Proceeds from the Walk - and from the generous donations of LCBO patrons – will support The Arthritis Society, Canada’s only charity uniquely dedicated to funding and promoting arthritis research, advocacy and solutions to improve the quality of life for those affected by arthritis. Individuals who wish to learn more about the event can visit www.walktofightarthritis.com.

“The Arthritis Society does important work to improve lives while working towards a future without arthritis. But we couldn’t do it without support,” says Joanne Simons, Executive Director of The Arthritis Society, Ontario Division. “We are thrilled by this initiative with the LCBO, and appreciate the generosity of its employees and customers, who will help to make a real difference for those living with arthritis through their donation.

“LCBO is pleased to partner with The Arthritis Society and provide support to a variety of worthy causes,” says LCBO President & CEO Bob Peter. “Generous LCBO customers and staff improve the lives of countless Ontarians and help communities throughout the province.”

The Arthritis Society is one of 28 provincial, as well as numerous local, charities that will benefit from LCBO’s province-wide donation box program in 2012. In 2011, LCBO raised a total of more than $6.2 million for charities through special programs and initiatives, of which $5.7 million was raised through in-store fundraising. In addition, LCBO’s annual dividend transfer to the Ontario government, which totaled $1.55 billion in fiscal 2010-11, excluding taxes, supports a wide range of important government programs, services and priorities, including health care and education.

The Arthritis Society thanks the public for its support when shopping at their local LCBO store during June. To learn more about The Arthritis Society, visit www.arthritis.ca.
