Arthritis Society gains accreditation by Imagine Canada’s Standards Program

November 25, 2013

The Arthritis Society announced today that it has been accredited under Imagine Canada’s Standards Program, one of just 82 Canadian non-profit organizations to earn that distinction.

In order to achieve the accreditation The Society met the 73 standards regarding policy and operation that are designed to elevate public confidence in the charitable and non-profit sector.

“We are proud to achieve such an important distinction, which underscores our commitment to excellence in all that we do,” said Janet Yale, CEO and president of The Arthritis Society. “Earning this accreditation provides donors, sponsors and volunteers with the knowledge that they are contributing to an organization that is professional, transparent and a careful steward of donor dollars.”

The Society’s application for the Standards Program was peer reviewed by a panel of independent, non-profit leaders from across Canada. The submission covered five key areas of operation and policy: board governance; financial accountability & transparency; fundraising; staff management; and volunteer involvement. The Society complied in all areas, earning an accreditation for a five-year period.

A national charity itself, Imagine Canada supports and strengthens the sector, and developed its standards along with Volunteer Canada and the HR Council after consultation with non-profit leaders across Canada.
