Reporting to the Director, Business & Foundation Development, the Business Development Manager is responsible for growing new business nationwide by sourcing, qualifying, cultivating and closing new fundraising opportunities whilst stewarding current partners to renew and grow revenues from partnerships. He/she will be responsible for developing robust partnerships with corporations and brands that will support The Arthritis Society’s fundraising, research and mission-related activities, focusing primarily on non-pharma, sponsorships, cause-marketing and corporate philanthropic initiatives at the $20,000 to $500,000 level.
Key areas of responsibility include:
- Revenue Development: Achieving revenue and in-kind targets and business objectives for corporate sponsorship and promotion activities; supporting the acquisition, retention and growth of national corporate partnerships to generate revenue based on identified key Society products and priorities through corporate sponsorships and promotions; soliciting and securing corporate support for events and programs; and developing individualized cultivation and stewardship plans for key prospects.
- Account Management & Client Services: Managing key accounts under the direction of the Director, Business & Foundation Development, ensuring that the business objectives of both The Society and the corporate partners are achieved and interactions are recorded accordingly; identifying and pursuing opportunities for growth and expansion within existing relationships; and working collaboratively and strategically with Society staff across Canada to support growth of strong national corporate partnerships that are activated in communities across all provinces.
- Program Administration: Gathering competitive information and identifying potential opportunities and challenges in the corporate market.
Required Skills and Experience:
The successful candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in business development or fundraising with 3 to 5 years’ progressive experience within a not-for-profit or business environment. He/she will possess the ability to develop and execute long-term plans based on strong business acumen and deep comprehension of industry trends, whilst prioritizing objectives in order to leverage short-term opportunities. A high degree of skill in strategic business development is essential, building robust partnerships with new corporations while growing the value of existing corporate partnerships. Superior interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) including excellent presentation skills and experience developing proposals, reports and other communications are vital. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is essential, with donor/client database experience an asset. French language skills are an asset.
